How a custom engagement ring is made in Vancouver

Every custom ring starts with a conversation at our downtown Vancouver studio and ends with a piece made to your specification. Most custom engagement rings take three to five weeks from your first consultation to final delivery, in four stages.

If you are working to a specific date, such as a proposal or an anniversary, tell us early and we will confirm whether a faster turnaround is possible.

  1. Consultation

We agree on the design and the diamond together: shape, carat weight, metal and setting. Booking a private appointment lets a diamond specialist set aside dedicated time for you.

  2. 3D CAD render

Before anything is made, you see the ring as a 3D CAD render and approve it. Bespoke work begins once the design and specification are agreed in writing.

  3. Hand-crafting and setting

Our bench jewellers craft the ring and set the stones by hand.

  4. Final quality check

The finished ring goes through a final quality check before it is delivered to you.

Choosing the shape, metal and setting

Three decisions shape an engagement ring: the diamond’s shape, the metal and the setting. There is no wrong combination, only the one that feels like yours.

Shape

Round brilliant is the classic. Oval and marquise are elongated shapes, emerald cut has long, stepped facets, and pear and cushion sit between classic and distinctive. A toi et moi ring pairs two stones side by side. Our guide to diamond cuts explains how shape affects sparkle.

Metal

White gold and platinum give a cool, silvery look, yellow gold is warm and traditional, and rose gold has a soft pink tone. Our guide to choosing a metal compares them.

Setting

A solitaire shows a single stone. A halo surrounds it with smaller diamonds, a hidden halo places that ring of diamonds beneath the centre stone, a bezel holds it in a thin rim of metal, and a cathedral setting lifts it on arching shoulders.

Lab-grown diamonds, in plain terms

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They have the same physical, chemical and optical properties as natural diamonds, and they are not cubic zirconia or moissanite. The difference is origin: they are grown in a controlled laboratory instead of being mined, and they typically cost less than natural diamonds of the same size and quality. Every diamond comes with an IGI or GIA grading report, and natural diamonds are available on request for custom designs.

Questions from Vancouver clients

Can I have a custom engagement ring made in Vancouver, and how long does it take?
Yes. We design custom engagement rings and other custom jewelry, starting with a personalized consultation. Most custom engagement rings take three to five weeks from your first consultation to final delivery. The process runs in four stages: an initial consultation to agree on design and diamond, a 3D CAD render for your approval, hand-crafting and stone setting by our bench jewellers, and a final quality check. If you are working to a specific date, tell us early and we will confirm whether a faster turnaround is possible. Natural diamonds are available on request for custom designs.
How much does a lab-grown engagement ring cost?
Every price on our website is in Canadian dollars, and each product page shows the price for that piece. The price depends on the diamond's carat weight and shape, the metal and the setting. For a custom design, we review diamond options, budget and design direction with you in a private consultation, and bespoke work begins once the design and specification are agreed in writing. Your final total and every other detail of your order are confirmed at checkout, before you pay.
Do your diamonds come with an IGI or GIA grading report?
Yes. Every diamond comes with an IGI or GIA grading report. Ask us for the report that applies to the piece you are interested in.
Do you offer a warranty on your jewelry?
Yes. Every piece carries a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. If we confirm a covered defect, we repair the piece at no charge, and we replace a lost side stone free of charge in the first year. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, accidental damage or misuse, and it is not insurance. The full terms are on our warranty page.
Do you resize rings, and how do I find my ring size?
Yes. We offer one complimentary resize per ring within 30 days of you receiving it, and later resizes are charged at our standard workshop rate. Some designs, such as full eternity bands, cannot be safely resized, and we will tell you before you buy if that applies to your piece. To find your size, measure with a ring sizer or compare against a ring that already fits the same finger.
